棚経で、
町の家々をまわる夏。

お経を読み終えると、
冷たいしそジュースを
出していただくことがよくありました。

赤紫蘇に、
青紫蘇を少し。

家によって少しずつ違いながら、
この町の夏の暮らしに
ずっとあったものです。

けれど、いつしか
しそジュースをつくる家も
少なくなりました。

このまま、
なくなってしまうのかな。

その記憶ごと、
次につなぐことはできないだろうか。

そんなことを考えて、
毎年、夏になると
しそシロップを仕込んでいます。

In summer,
we visit homes around the town
for Tanagyo.

After the sutras are read,
we are often served
a cold glass of shiso juice.

Red shiso,
with a little green shiso.

Each family makes it
a little differently,
but it has long been
part of summer life in this town.

Over time,
fewer and fewer families
have continued to make it.

Will it simply
disappear one day?

Could we carry it forward,
along with the memories around it?

With that thought in mind,
every summer,
we make shiso syrup.
